I’m a physicist and product of the UC system, having done my bachelors at UC Berkeley and PhD at UC Davis, specializing in nanomagnetics & device fabrication. I’ve since taken my academic experience to an industry setting, but haven’t been able to fully escape the lab as I now work at a bay area scientific systems company that provides motion control systems for all sorts of labs around the country.
While I may no longer be spending late nights attempting to align a million dollar microscope via “percussive maintenance” (hitting it with a wrench), I’m still deep in the scientific trenches and love every minute of it. As a transfemme in STEM, I’m passionate about trying to bring about positive changes that can help break down barriers and build up inclusive spaces for queer and trans people in both academic and industry settings. This is easier said than done, but I’m looking forward to working with DiversityZoom to help take steps in the right direction.
Simply put, my north star is to put myself into a position where I can increase trans visibility in STEM and use this to help build up inclusive and supportive environments for queer and trans people in the workplace.
