Who is Chrysalis Consulting Collaborative?
Chrysalis Consulting Collaborative, motivated organizations to make the just, equitable and inclusive change needed to align their organizational vision and reality.
“Chrysalis” represents the crucible for your organization’s metamorphosis. Our collaboration is the pupal stage that will help your organization to transform into its beautiful, winged imago – as long as you’re willing to invest the time, hard work and risk-taking that transformation entails.
What initially got you started in your business?
With over 15 years of committed work in justice, equity, diversity and inclusion (JEDI) in well-respected educational, non-profit and corporate organizations across the globe, I have seen the change that I can affect when working on JEDI efforts. I know that this is a nuanced and complex endeavor, and I established Chrysalis to offer exactly the kind of expertise that I’ve seen proven to get results.
What services do you provide?
While many organizations recognize the urgent need for equitable and inclusive change, and the benefits that come with making that change, there is often a gap between their vision and their ability to execute on it. There may be fears about making a misstep, paralysis in transforming knowledge to action, or a lack of awareness on the concrete changes to make. Chrysalis has the solutions to bridging this gap, whether by conducting an audit to hone in on what the specific challenges at your organization might be, co-creating mechanisms for meaningful change with your employees, or by providing strategic consulting on the best ways to triage identified challenges. As long as your organization is moved to making meaningful change, Chrysalis can empower you with the vision, tools and confidence you need to start building the world we collectively want to live in.
What challenges do you see in the DEI space or in the industries you work in?
The foremost challenge I see across a multitude of industries is that, for decades, it has become increasingly obvious that traditional “diversity and inclusion” interventions continue to fail. This is because, too often, they do not effectively address the deep complexity of the issues that prompted their creation, and they do not ask for more than basic awareness-raising. As a result, they unintentionally reinforce the status quo, rather than creating the necessary accountabilities required for transformative change.
In the DEI space, 2020 has exposed ancient systemic faultlines. We can no longer ignore these real, systemic problems that are at the heart of our societal challenges. Once we can expose and resolve the myths that have mis-directed our best intentions, we can start to work on authentic ways in which to leverage the full potential and abundance of our success, now and into the future.
Any advice on how companies can get started regarding DEI?
My biggest advice for organizations that want to get started on this journey is to have their senior leaders answer some hard questions as part of an independent self-analysis. For example:
- How is JEDI already incorporated in our work, and where do we need help?
What are the barriers that do, or would, prevent this work from being successful?
Are we willing to invest the resources to tackle these questions?
If the answers to these questions solidify your organizational desire to do the work, Chrysalis would be happy to complete an introductory consultation to help identify the right resources for your trajectory and needs.
What are you optimistic about?
Chrysalis is optimistic that most people have a personal motivation for positive change, and that enough people motivated to make change together can make meaningful systemic change that sustains for the generations to follow. As the founder of this firm, I truly believe that in this lifetime we have both the capacity and the potential for some world-changing, positive impacts.
